When someone says “Penny lane” I recall the popular song by the rock band Beatles. But did you know it means something completely different here at Aalborg?

When you walk through the Boulevarden street at Aalborg there is this one cafe shop that quickly captures your attention. Yes, cafe shop with delicious dishes, pastries, variety of drinks and what not. So what’s so special in that? There is something very unique about this cozy coffee place.

Note: Hygge in Danish and Norwegian means acknowledging a feeling or moment with family/friends or loved ones in a cozy and comfortable environment.

The atmosphere is something I have always loved in coffee shops rather than the coffee itself. Ambiance at Penny Lane becomes the center of attraction for all age groups. All those small tiny toys to comfy sofas to royal furniture. The sun dusk lighting not very bright yet enough to make you comfortable. The rustic look of the counters with those delicious pastries, colorful juices, buns, breads and lot more are prepared in-house and served fresh.

Is it just a coffee shop or does it have something for the foodies?

The menu is filled with delicious options for breakfast to dinner. Smoothies, juices, bar, baked foods and, of course, coffee. Pair your coffee with the yummiest cake, your food can be customized according to your requirements. The staff is very friendly and won’t mind whether you buy a coffee or something to drink or eat every hour. I ordered a juice called ‘Lucy in the sky’, hey wait a minute is that the song from Beatles? Though the place is not completely themed, you will see some reference here and there to Beatles. A mix of carrot, ginger and other fresh fruit juice in the drink was worth savoring. Also later a cappuccino, vegan hummus sandwich, hour after hour. Great food, great coffee, great ambiance what more is needed to have nice hygge conversation.

What more can you expect in Penny Lane?

And in between all these they sell colorful porcelain cutleries and other souvenirs. Most of the items are sold according to seasonal festivals or occasions. If you’re in search for a good place relax, eat and to have a good conversation with friends and family, you know where to be.
