The story of REMA 1000

REMA1000 which stands for Reitan Mat (founder of the company), begins in Norway. During it’s earlier days, some of their stores were named ‘REMA 500’, which was to indicate it’s number of food variety and it was planned to expand later. The success of the third REMA supermarket with a selection of 1,000 different products paved way for them in becoming a renowned brand – REMA 1000. Since then till now, REMA 1000 have expanded their selection to more than 2,500 varieties of products, but the name has not been updated along the way.
It has it’s head quarters in Oslo and they have more than 868 stores spread across Norway and Denmark. Now it has become the leading grocery chain and one of the strongest brands in the country.
The slogan of REMA 1000 is “The simple is often the best” (Norwegian: “Det enkle er ofte det beste”) and this reflects on the layout concept followed by the supermarkets. All the products are mostly positioned in crates or by pallets to save the cost of positioning them in a more attractive way, a strategy not unique to REMA 1000. It is still REMA 1000’s official policy of not letting cost-saving damage the basic idea of simplicity (in accordance with the slogan).

My experience with REMA 1000

Whenever I have visited REMA 1000 I find the vegetables and fruits to be fresh at a very reasonable price. Well, when they are not that fresh the pricing on it also reduces drastically. Say if the vegetables may not last for two days then the prices drop to as low as 0.9DKK (roughly 10 INR). The drop in price can be 10 times, which is amazing.

Unique feature of REMA 1000

REMA may not be one of the very high end grocery chains but they sure know how to meet the customers need. I have found that REMA places all the products with discount in a central location. This is very convenient as I do not need to look around for those products with discounts. I find such unique features of REMA 1000 is quite appealing and  believe it earns them an amazingly strong customer pool.

So I  strongly recommend you to  visit REMA 1000 if in need of  groceries when you are in Norway or Denmark.
